Blackwood
Competition (Shortlisted), Lea Marston, UK
The Blackwood Folklore Interpretation Centre is a speculative proposal exploring architecture as a vessel for folklore, memory, and narrative experience. Located in the wetlands of Lea Marston near Birmingham, the project draws inspiration from the atmospheric landscapes of the British Isles and Algernon Blackwood’s Ancient Lights.
Visitors approach the center via an elevated walkway across the marshland, passing through a series of pavilions that introduce local swamp folklore and stories tied to the landscape.
Inside, the center reinterprets the traditional museum by focusing on atmosphere and spatial storytelling, bringing visitors closer to folklore through immersive environments rather than conventional displays.

The experience culminates in guided evening walks through the surrounding forest and wetlands, immersing visitors in the environments that gave rise to these narratives.
